LAWTON, Iowa | Fern Lenore Hansen, 99, of Lawton died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Char-Mac Assisted Living in Lawton.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with the Rev. Jay Denne officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Fern was born on Feb. 11, 1914, on the family farm near Obert, Neb., to Martin and Gertrude (Iverson) Anfinson.

She married Herman Hansen on Jan. 26, 1932. They made Sioux City their home. In 1970, they retired to Park Rapids, Minn., and moved to Allen, Neb., in 1990. Herman died in 1993. Fern moved to Char Mac Assisted Living in 2001.

Fern designed and made dresses for more than 20 years. She was also an award winning sales person for World Book Encyclopedia. She loved to garden, quilt, and crochet, play cribbage, fish, dance and travel with her family. She was always the life of the party.

She was a member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sioux City.

Surviving are son, Michael D. and Jonelle Hansen of Sioux City; daughters, Barb and Al Zellmer of Lawton, and Janice Matson of Rockledge, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Hansen; son, Douglas LeRoy; brothers, Burdete, Vernon, Merle, and Mervin Anfinson; and sisters, Inez, Lyla, Mildred, Wilma, and Vivian.
