7 December 2009SIOUX CITY -- Opal Viola Frazier, 89, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Countryside Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Don Botic officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Opal was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Viborg, S.D., to Peter and Antomina (Christensen) Jensen. She attended grade school in Irene, S.D., and in 1938, she graduated from Bronson High School in Bronson, Iowa. Opal worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" and various other jobs until her marriage to Earle H. Frazier on Aug. 15, 1942. She was employed by Sioux City Furniture, Bellas Hess in the credit department and Bekins Furniture as a bill collector.
She was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies included crocheting, baking, playing cards, dancing and enjoying her Pomeranian dogs.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Diane and Frank Gruber of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Bob and Ruth Jensen of Bronson, Iowa, Two sisters and their husbands, Marcia and Gordon Young of Sioux City, and Hazel and Tom Ritter of Independence, Ore.; as well as many nieces and nephews; and her special friend, "Gracie."
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
