Bertha Godsey Brady, 103, formerly of Sloan and Whiting, Iowa, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Sioux Center Community Health Nursing Wing in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Bertha was born March 19, 1899, at Pacific Junction, Iowa, the daughter of William and Zillia Fisher. She married Bernard Godsey and they farmed for many years in the Whiting and Sloan area. They had two sons, William and Robert.

During the Depression, Bertha worked at Green Gables in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1945 she married Dan Brady and they moved to Seattle, Washington.

They became cooks at Fraternity and Sorority houses at Washington University until they retired. After her husband, Dan, passed away, Bertha returned to Sioux Center, Iowa, in 1978 to be close to William and Mary Godsey. She lived in Franken Manor for twenty-one years. She loved to knit, sew, read, and cook. She especially liked working crossword puzzles. She always had a good sense of humor.

Survivors include one son and his wife William and Mary Godsey of Sioux Center. Iowa; four grandchildren, Linda and her husband, Jack Frisbie of Maryville, Missouri, Ann and her husband, Paul DenHerder of Haslett, Michigan, Charlotte and her husband, Michael Belles of Ankeny, Iowa, and Robert Godsey of Bloomington, Illinois; 12 great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Susan, Jackie, and Lindsey Frisbie, Jessie, Bethany, Kristen, and John DenHerder, Matthew and Michelle Baltes, and, Heather and Melissa Godsey; one sister, Irene Butcher of Trenton, Missouri; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; two brothers; and eight sisters.

Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Wood Funeral Home, Sloan Iowa, with Rev. Paul DenHerder officiating. Robert Godsey and Mary Godsey provided the music with a Medley of Favorite Hymns", "Amazing Grace", and "God Be With You."

Casket Bearers were Jesse DenHerder, John DenHerder, Matt Baltes, Mike Baltes, Robert Godsey, and Jack Frisbie.

Interment was in the Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa.
