John C. Frerichs, 85, of Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Richard Sitzmann of Mercy Medical Center officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973.
Mrs. Frerichs was born May 12, 1914, in Merrill, Iowa, the son of George and Anna (Utech) Frerichs. He graduated from Sioux City Central High School. He served in the U.S. Army with the Ranger Division during World War II, stationed in Italy and North Africa. He was a rifle marksman.
He married Martha T. Sitzman on Feb. 6, 1947, in Sioux City. He was employed as a route salesman with Ray V. Mitchell for 29 years, retiring in 1972.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973, American Legion Monahan Post 64, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 54, and Eagles Lodge.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Mary Ann and David O'Dell of South Sioux City; a brother, Alfred "Sonny" of Seaside, Calif.; four sisters, Viola Horsley of Armour, S.D., Edith "Babe" Domnisse of Sioux City, Ella Melton of California, and Corrine Laycheck of Indiana; two grandsons, Justin and Alex; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Fern Betsworth and Leona Edmeier.
Pallbearers will be Alex and Justin O'Dell, Leo Sitzman, Marlin Horsley, Dick Feauto, Mo Voloshen and Paul Bock.
