Kathryn Lee, longtime resident of Battle Creek, remembered

Kathryn Lee, 82, of Battle Creek, Iowa, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center Sioux City.

Services were held Saturday, Sept. 23 at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. The Rev. Kevin J. Freese officiated, with burial following in Liston Township Cemetery in Danbury, Iowa.

Visitation was Friday, Sept. 22 at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Battle Creek.

Born May 5, 1924, in Battle Creek, Kathryn Lucille Lee was the daughter of Chester and Clara (Mohr) Brown. She grew up and received her education in the Danbury area. She graduated from Danbury High School in 1942, then attended MBT Office Business College in Sioux City. Following graduation, Kathryn worked for an attorney in Ida Grove, Iowa, and later for the ASC office.

On Dec. 24, 1944, she married C. Stuart Lee in San Diego, Calif. While in California, Kathryn was employed by the Tidewater Oil Company in San Francisco. The couple returned to Iowa in 1944, where they farmed in the Battle Creek area for many years.

Kathryn was a faithful and devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, where she held numerous offices during the past years. She was a 4-H leader, open class superintendent at the Ida County Fair and a 20-year member of the Women's Extension Committee. Kathryn also enjoyed membership in the Pleasant Valley Club, The Birthday Club and Schleswig Golf Course.

She enjoyed shopping, playing Rummy Cube with the grandchildren and quilting. She was an avid golfer, and was especially proud of shooting a hole-in-one in the 1980s. Kathryn also enjoyed entering her baked goods at the fair. She and Stuart enjoyed many nice vacations over the years, and spent 20 winters in Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Stuart; three children and their spouses, Audrey and Kenneth Bremer of Blakesburg, Iowa, and Chester and Rhonda Lee and Carl and Gaylene Lee, all of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
