Mary L. Waderich, age 83 of Hornick, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008.

Services were held 10 a.m. Friday, August 1 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa. Karen Krusen was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "How Great Thou Art", "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Heaven Is My Home". A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. and an Auxiliary Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mary Lorraine Waderich was born June 28, 1925, in Oto, Iowa, to Henry and Gladys Mary (Ives) McKenna. She grew up at Oto, one of a family of four children and graduated from Oto High School with the class of 1944.

On December 3, 1944, she married Leo Waderich. The couple made their home and raised their family at Hornick, Iowa.

Mary was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton and served as a very active parishioner. Joining in 1961, she was a 47 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Henry V. McKenna Unit #651 of Oto, Iowa which was named after her father. In addition, she was a charter member since 1979 of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Unit #9124 of Oto, where she served as president for 20 years.

Mary enjoyed her family, nieces and nephews and many friends who deeply loved her. She enjoyed time spent baking and cooking for family gatherings, especially the holiday gatherings.

Mary is survived by Leo, her husband of 63 years; seven children, daughter Marilyn Hamann and her husband, Duane of Smithland, Iowa and children, Tracy Koett, Kimberly Whitton, Shawn Hamann, and Jerri Haindfield, son Dennis Waderich and his wife Sue of Savage, Minnesota, daughter Marcia Hulse and her husband Kevin Rauch of Iowa City, Iowa and children Scott Hulse and Sara Schwindt, daughter Shery Roupe and her husband Roger of Sioux City, Iowa and children Chad Heiden, Marcus Roupe, Jon Roupe, Dan Roupe, and Keith Roupe, son Steven Waderich and his wife Tamara of Burnsville, Minnesota and child Josiah Waderich, daughter Rita Tabke and her husband Garrett of Moville, Iowa and children Tricia Lindsay, Michelle Clark, and Brooke Tabke, and son Michael Waderich and his wife Kathy of Hornick, Iowa and children Wendy Waderich and Aaron Waderich; and one sister, Patricia Baker/ Incitti of Colorado City, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James and Francis McKenna.

Honorary pallbearer was Aaron Waderich.

Pallbearers were Shawn Hamann, Scott Hulse, Chad Heiden, Marcus Roupe, Josiah Waderich and Cory Ping.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
