PITTSBURG, CA - Evie (Welte) Ahlwardt of Pittsburg passed away peacefully on September 21, 2007, while visiting relatives in Truckee, CA.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time at the church.

Evie was born on July 9, 1927, in Danbury, IA to Gerald and Laura (Collins) Welte, 1 of 11 children. She graduated from St. Patrick's Academy with the class of '45. She taught at various country schools before marriage to Lewie Ahlwardt on June 24, 1948. They moved to California in the 1956.

Evie was an avid seam-stress and quilter, winning many awards for her quilting projects. In her youth, she was active in 4-H, winning many awards with her live-stock projects.

Evie is survived by her husband, Lewie; 5 children, Sam, Steve & Kitty, Scott & Yvonne, Susan & Rick and Stacy; 9 grandsons; 5 granddaughters; 9 great grandchildren; and 8 siblings, Jean Burris, Bing and Verna Welte, Joyce Jackson, Mary Jo Person, Mike Welte, Ed and Pat Welte, Kay and Richard Fritz, and Tim and Robin Welte.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila; her parents; a brother, Pat; and a sister, Sarah in infancy.
