13 August 2008Mary Agnes Theobald, 74, of Anthon, Iowa passed away July 26, 2008. A service by the Catholic Daughters was held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29 with a Vigil Wake Service that evening at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Anthon, IA. Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Julie Hamann served as organist and vocalist.
Honorary Pallbearers were Richard Theobald, Jonathon Theobald, Antonio Morici, Jeff Vaassen, B.J. Pohlen, Ryan Theobald, Benjamin Vaassen, Mike Wesche, Leo Hudson and Stephen Wesche.
Interment was at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Anthon under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Services.
Mary Agnes "Toots" Theobald was born in Anthon, Iowa on September 29, 1933, to Kenneth and Agnes (King) Sawin. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School, graduating from Anthon High School in Anthon, Iowa in 1951.
She married Richard "Dick" Theobald on December 26, 1951, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon. To this union seven children were born.
This young couple and their family lived on a farm west of Anthon their entire married life. Apart from being a wonderful mother and loving wife, Mary Agnes might most be known for being "the pie lady." Her love for cooking supplied many a wedding, graduation, reunion, or just a treat for after dinner at local homes.
Over the years, she also worked as a teacher's aide at Anthon¬Oto Schools, the Little Siouxloon and the Anthon Post Office at Anthon. Mary has been a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Anthon, the St. Joseph's Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters, and the Sunnyside Club. She has also held various offices with the Catholic Daughters organization.
She is survived by her husband, Dick Theobald and beloved pet, Rocky; four sons, Greg Theobald and his wife Kelly of Kansas City, MO, Scott Theobald and his wife Mary of Raymore, MO, Michael Theobald and his wife Candie of Overland Park, KS and Jeff Theobald and his wife Kim of Urbandale, IA; and three daughters, Kris Wesche and her husband Michael of St. Charles, MO, Jennifer Hudson and her husband Leo of Romeo, MI and Amy Vaassen and her husband Jeff of Ankeny, IA. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter; and a brother, Gene Sawin and his wife Frances of Anthon, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
