SIOUX CITY | Duane William Davis, 56, of Sioux City received his wings on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary by the Catholic Daughters of the America at 4 p.m., a vigil service at 7 p.m. and a rosary by the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council 5660, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Duane was born on Feb. 3, 1957, in Sioux City, the son of Jean and Darlene (Ernst) Davis. He attended special education classes at St. Anthony’s, St. Francis then Pupil Service Center, graduating with the class of 1979. He and nine other classmates were enrolled into WACO (later renamed New Perspectives Inc.), where he worked many projects such as glass crushing, microfilming, Styrofoam corners for Gateway, Pepsi Cola, Coca Cola and hangers for Ardmark.

He enjoyed his many fellow clients, especially Jim C., who helped him many times through the years.

Duane had been a 10-year member of Cub and Boy Scouts, a 22-year member of Dandee Dance Club for special adults, a member of Disabled Roller Bowling League and K.D. Special Olympic Bowlers since 1974. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5660. He also was a member of Action Club of the Morningside Kiwanis. Duane was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs, especially when Sammy Sosa played. In 2004, he went to Chicago and saw him play in person. He was a bigger fan of the NASCAR races and was a collector of their race caps.

Duane will be remembered for his love for everyone he met and his deep commitment to his faith, Jesus, and Pope John Paul.

Survivors include his mother, Darlene (Ernst) Davis; his brother, Keith (Sue) Davis; two sisters, Gayle (Kevin) Counter, all of Sioux City and Karen (Tom) Claeys of Hinton, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jean; his twin sister, Teresa; both Ernst and Davis grandparents; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces.
