SIOUX CITY -- Raymond J. Snyder, 78, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Glendale Baptist Church, with the Rev. LeRoy Struble officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Raymond J. Snyder was born on Oct. 1, 1931, in South Sioux City, the son of John and Doris (Conan) Snyder. On June 1, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marcella R. Griffin. Raymond was in the Iowa National Guard for over 13 years.

Raymond had lived a long and wonderful life. He was a hard worker. Over the years, he had worked at Swifts, the Stockyards and the BNSF Railroad. He was a self-taught carpenter, working on his own home and many apartments in the area.

Raymond will be missed by all his family and friends. He was a very proud father that loved all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family always came first. He loved his little white church in the valley called Glendale Baptist Church, where he was a member for over 70 years. The Glendale Baptist Church has always been his Rock through the years.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Marcella; children, Ricky Ray Snyder and his wife Gayla, Terry Lee Snyder and his wife Chris, Rhonda Mae and her husband Lonnie Leemkuil, Larry John Snyder, Tommy Richard Snyder and his wife Dani and Bessie Marion Boyda; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willard Snyder and his wife Shirley, and Rodney Snyder and his wife Char; one sister, Delores Gallup; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Susan Walters; a granddaughter, Jessica Lee Snyder; a brother, Richard Snyder and his sister, Patricia Thompson.

Ray wished to send his love to all and that God bless everyone. He was thankful to God for his family, and now, his life is in God's hand.
