SIOUX CITY -- Norma Joyce (Parker) Byrne, 82, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at a local hospital surrounded by her loved ones.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Crescent Park United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Squires officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.

Born Oct. 19, 1927, to Alvin and Nellie (Dicus) Parker, Norma was the youngest of eight children. She lived all her life in the Sioux City area. For a few years, she worked outside the home at Woolco and People's Store.

She married Neal F. Byrne on Sept. 16, 1950. They were fortunate enough to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary together before Neal passed away in 2002.

Norma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and the matriarch of the family. She was a strong and courageous woman, who had 11 children, all of whom she loved and cherished very much, always making time for who ever needed her. She loved spending time with each of them individually.

She is survived by four daughters, Donna (Jon) Johnson, Linda (Ben) Jensen, Patti (Richard) Sulzbach, all of Sioux City and Pam (Robert) Byrne-Aarsleff of Poway, CA.; five sons, Rick (Kim) Byrne of Omaha, Neb., Clarence Byrne of South Sioux City, Brian Byrne of Omaha, Robert Byrne of Sioux City and Michael (Laurie) Byrne of Sioux City; 29 grandchildren, Michael Gehron, Kelli Plaza, Michael Henry, Marissa Johnson, Michaia Scott, Wendy Rowley, Misty (Mike) Klemmensen, Jon (Lori), Jason (Amy), Joe and Jeff Sulzbach, Tricia (Eric) Wolf, Kristi (Alex) Soderquist, Melinda and Racarra Aarsleff, Cory and Kayla Byrne, Adam (Ronda), Cody, Nick and Amanda Byrne, Courtney Byrne, Branden Gossard, Robert Byrne Jr., Halee and McKayla Byrne, Ashlie (Brandon) Shores, Alyssa and Amber Byrne; 28 great-grandchildren, Jacob Gehron, Austin Plaza, Hope, Natalee and Nathan Henry, Alexander and Lila Mae Scott, Braeden and Baylee Rowley, Kampbell Klemmensen, Sawyer Antonetti, Christopher and Carter Sulzbach, Jacob and Emerson Sulzbach, Cydney and Hannah Sulzbach, Colin and Gillian Wolf, Patrick and Madison Soderquist, Alfonso and Annaleah Aasleff, Hunter, Catie and Alexia Byrne, Aaliyah and Alex Shores; a sister-in-law, Katherine Byrne; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Byrne and his wife, Mary; and many, many, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Neal; twin daughters, Teresa and Terry; her parents, Alvin and Nellie; two brothers, Hartley Parker and Cecil Parker; and five sisters, Beulah "Dove" Koster, Mildred Wright, Bessie Jansen, Viva "Sis" Kettleson and Marvel "Toots" Wright.

Pallbearers will be her nine granddaughters, Tricia Wolf, Kristi Soderquist, Kayla Byrne, Amanda Byrne, Courtney Byrne, Halee Byrne, Ashlie Byrne, Alyssa Byrne and Amber Byrne.
