SALIX, Iowa -- Louis L. Kroll Jr., 79, of Salix died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Community Church of Christ in Sloan, Iowa, with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, Neb. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday with Masonic services at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Louis Kroll, son of Louis and Sarah (Jackson) Kroll, was born July 2, 1926, at Whiting, Iowa. He and his family moved to rural Onawa where he attended school. He joined the U. S. Army on Sept. 25, 1944, during World War II and served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater, where he was in Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. After his discharge Nov. 10, 1945, he returned to Onawa.

He married Agnes Mae Bowman on Dec. 4, 1974. They lived in Salix and later moved to Decatur, Neb. Agnes passed away May 25, 2001. Mr. Kroll joined Attica Lodge 502 AF and AM at Sloan in 1957. He was a truck driver, retired from Sioux Tools where he was a drill press operator and later was with security at Winn-A-Vegas.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Walsh of Salix, and Sharon (Don) Frese of Decatur; 10 grandchildren, Sarah (Darby) Iverson of Sloan, Becky (David) Beutler of Pender, Neb., Therese (Dan) McGill, Jim (Stephanie) Warren, Penny (Brian Frese) Warren and Thomas (Nola) Keller, all of Decatur; Jerry Warren, Omaha, Sheila (Kirk) Metzer and Ronda (Scott) Robinett, both of Republic, Mo. and Kristy Taylor of Broken Bow, Neb.; a sister, Norma Purdy of Omaha; 31 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; his parents; two sons, Steve Kroll and Terry Taylor; a great-granddaughter, MadaLyn Iverson; a brother Tony White and an infant sister, Tina.
