SIOUX CITY -- Mary Jean Duzik, 91, of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today. The Catholic Daughters of America and the Carmelite Guild Board will say the rosary at 4:45 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Mary was born on April 9, 1918, in Sioux City, the daughter of John "Dick" and Loretta (O'Shonnessy) Walding. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1936, and then attended the Midwest Business College.

On May 18, 1942, she married George Duzik Jr. in Camp Polk, La. Mary worked for Wilson Trailer Company, the U.S. government and for Sears. She retired in 1982.

Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Guild and the Catholic Daughters of America, Ave Maria Court 269. She was a former member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, the Carmelite Guild Board and the Southern Hills Country Club, and she loved to golf.

Mary is survived by her husband, George of Sioux City; three sons and their wives, Don and Terry of Sioux City, John and Barbara of Sioux City, and Dean and Kate of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Anne (Jason) Stanek, Nancy (Dennis) Huber, David (Pam) Duzik, Peggy Duzik, Laura (Mike) Miller, Emily (Robb) Poland, Alex Duzik and Adam Duzik; 11 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob, Abbey and Jack Stanek, Claire, Lydia, Nora and Lucy Huber, Eric and Sean Miller and Nolan Duzik; two brothers, Jack (Arlene) Walding of Sioux City, and Edward Walding of Rochester, Minn.; a sister, Margaret (Lester) Closner of Des Moines; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Walding of Sioux City; and a very special friend, Mary Dee "Sam" Hacker of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard; and a son in infancy.
