SIOUX CITY -- Marjorie Leone Killinger, 103, of Sioux City, formerly of rural Montgomery County, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Countryside Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hertz Funeral Home in Carson, Iowa. Local arrangements were handled by Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Marjorie was born Jan. 30, 1906, on a farm in Macedonia, Iowa, the daughter of A.C. and Marie Lewis. She graduated from Macedonia High School in 1922 and the University of Iowa in 1926. She taught school in Macedonia from 1926 to 1930.

On May 24, 1930, she married Scott Killinger and moved to their Montgomery County farm, where she lived for 70 years. In 2000, she moved to Sioux City, where her son, Sam, lives. She celebrated her 100th birthday in Sioux City with family, longtime friends and neighbors.

Marjorie was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, LTD Club, Eastern Star, American Association of University of Women, Altrusa and the Montgomery County Historical Society. She was named a Montgomery County Extension Homemaker and was a district chairman for Iowa Women's Clubs.

She is survived by her children, Janice (Leonard) Janus of Orland Park, Ill., Marlene Schaefer of Warrenville, Ill., Sam (Claudia) Killinger of Sioux City, and Nyle (Tom) Jessen of Iowa City, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Scott Killinger; brothers, Glen and Donald; and a sister, Eloise Steiner.

Memorial donations may be made to the Montgomery County Historical Society.
