SIOUX CITY -- Matthew Drew Norvell, 36, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at his residence.

Private family services will be held, with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy Reserves. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Matt was born March 6, 1973, in Belvidere, Ill., to Max and Ruth (Molloy) Norvell. He graduated from West High School. He had lived in Sioux City and Okoboji, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Constellation. Matt was self-employed with Family Tree Services.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Matt was a true Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved to fish and swim. His "ideal" getaway was a night at a fancy hotel. He also loved La Juanita's and was definitely a jokester at heart.

Survivors include his father and mother, Max Norvell and Ruth (Molloy) Norvell of Sioux City; his brother, Chris and his wife, Brenda of Sioux City; his sister, Molly Norvell and her son, Max of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and his brother, Steven of Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joe Molloy; grandmother, Theresa (Drew) Molloy; grandmother, Jeanne (Devlin) Norvell; grandfather, Horace Norvell; cousin, Patty Norvell; aunts, Rose Ann Molloy and Helen VanOosbree; and his best four-legged friend, Finnegan Norvell.

Matt is a symbol of strength in our family and for all people who are left to struggle with mental illness.
