SIOUX CITY -- Leota F. Russell, 91, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Sunrise Manor.

Services will be 10 a.m. on Friday at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Nancy Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Leota was born in Canton, S.D., on July 1, 1918, to Mr. and Mrs. William Gapp. She attended school in Sioux City.

She married Wayne Russell on Dec. 15, 1935. They lived in Sioux City, where she worked as a nurse's aide and was a homemaker. The couple had six children.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and working jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include children, Beverly Olson, Diane (Edward) Fowler, Robert Russell and friend, Connie and Terrance Russell; 12 grandchildren, Rusty (Karole) Fowler, Ranae (Monte) Lowe, Jaimie (Toni) Russell, Jamie Russell, Barbara (Mick) Baldwin-Peterson; Mariah, Jarod and Jenny Russell, Adam, Stacy, Penny and Troy Kunkel; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Shirley) Gapp and Bill (Dot) Gapp; sister, Peggy Haggett; sister-in-law, Betty Gapp; and several nieces and nephews.

Leota was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; children, Donald Russell and Deborah Kunkel; grandchildren, Kim Baldwin and Bobby Russell; brother, Bob Gapp and sister, Nada Helme.
