Alfred C. Grier, 73, of Sun City West, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, died of an aneurysm on May 27, 1999, in Sun City West.

Services were held at Maple Grove United Methodist Church in Waukee, Iowa. Burial was in Waukee. Arrangements were under the direction of Best Funeral Services and Chapel.

Mr. Grier was born in Sioux City in 1925. He attended school in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served until his discharge in 1946.

He attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1950. He served as a pilot with the 185th Fighter Wing Iowa Air National Guard, Regional Army Air Guard and Des Moines Air Guard. He had over 3,400 flight hours recorded.

He lived in Des Moines, where he retired as a staff pilot for the attorney general of the State of Iowa and as an Air Force captain. He moved to Sun City West four years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Philanna; a daughter, Stephane Tresky of Altus, Ariz.; a son, Kirk of Des Moines; two stepsons, Ted Smith of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Larry Smith of Des Moines; a brother, Ted of Sun City West; and five grandchildren.
