Robert D. "Bob" Cox, 77. of Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 7. 2001, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. There will he a luncheon following the service Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Cox was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Des Moines. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines in January 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945.

He married Ada Belluchi on Oct. 25. 1942, in Des Moines. She died in 1985. He married Arline (Hoaglund) Phillips on May 28, 1988, in Sioux City. She died March 9, 2001, in Johnston, Iowa.

Mr. Cox came to Sioux City in 1950 from Des Moines. He was vice president of Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance Co. He also was employed with Katz Drug, National Cash Register and Soo Thrifty Drug.

He was very active in church, serving as church council president, member of the finance committee and adult education. He was involved in SCORE and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include, two daughters and their husbands. Sherry and Denis Hirschman of Sioux City, and Barbara and Loren Petersen of Cushing, Iowa: a step¬son and his wife, Mark and Jana Phillips of Ankeny, Iowa: a step¬daughter and her husband, Vicki and Robert Farmer of Ashland, Neb.: seven brothers, Art Cox of Tucson, Ariz., Norman and his wife, Marlene Cox of Panora, Iowa, Don and his wife, Charlotte Cox of Des Moines, Mervin and his wife, Betty Cox of Wisconsin, Richard and his wife, Juanita Cox of Des Moines, Gene and his wife, Susie Cox of Des Moines, and Leroy and his wife, Mary Jo Cox of Des Moines: a sister, Ettamey Cox of Des Moines: a grandson, Bryce Petersen and his special friend, Betsy Van Fossen; five step-grandchildren, Amy Willcockson, Chris Farmer, Carrie Codding, Kim Farmer and Scott Phillips: and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Ruth; and three brothers, Vernie, Ernie and Frank Cox.

Memorials may be directed to Sunrise Retirement Community.
