SIOUX CITY | Betty L. Speck, 92, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.

Betty, the daughter of Roy E. and Lettie (Windsor) Welding, was born on Jan. 27, 1921, in Sioux City. Her family moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she attended high school. She later moved back to Sioux City and attended Morningside College.

Betty married Ralph Speck on Jan. 10, 1946, at Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church in Sioux City.

She was a homemaker, who enjoyed life on the acreage with her family. She stayed busy raising the children, cooking, gardening, and canning. Betty was an animal lover who loved her dog, Shelby. The family always had dogs, cats, and horses on the acreage.

Betty is survived by her husband, Ralph, of Sioux City; children, Ken Speck of Sioux City, Dick (June) Speck of Mechanicsburg, Ill., John (Jane) Speck of Des Moines, and Donna (Rick) Brzuchalski of Chandler, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Capt. Clifford M. "Tip" Skalby; one daughter, Carole; and one great-grandson, Hayden Nowkhah.
