ANTHON - Elizabeth L. Gothier passed away on December 19, 2007, in Sergeant Bluff at 87 years, 4 months, and 11 days.

The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, December 22, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Anthon. Officiating was Pastor Vickie Steffes. The Message in Music was provided by organist Julie Hamann and soloist Roger Hladik who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross. The congregation sang "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing."

Pallbearers were Aric Petersen, Jonathon Petersen, Clifford McMurray, Christopher Jansen, Patrick Lane, Matthew Montange, Richard Schager, and Stephen Schager.

Visitation and the prayer service were held on Friday, December 21, 2007 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon. Interment was in Oak, Hill Cemetery at Anthon.

Armstrong Funeral Service of Anthon and Mapleton was in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Lucille Gothier was born on August 8, 1920, at Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of John C. and Gertrude (Angle) Dawson. She grew up on a farm and went to country school in Union County. She graduated from high school in Hawarden and attended Wayne State College. In 1938 she received her teacher's certificate and taught lower elementary school in Hinton for two years and then in Correctionville for one year.

While in college in Wayne State, Elizabeth met Donald Gothier of Anthon. On September 5, 1943, they were united in marriage at Hawarden. After her husband completed his military duties, the couple returned to Anthon where they owned and operated the Gothier Mink Ranch which included mink, cattle, and farming. Don died on June 8, 1998.

Elizabeth was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and attended the United Methodist Church in Anthon and was active in WSCS there. She was also a member of the Women's Club and was on the Library Board for many years. She was indeed an artist with a special talent as a water colorist. She won several awards for her paintings.

Survivors include daughter, Christine Jansen of Sioux City, Iowa and her family, grandson, Aric Petersen and his wife, Jodi of San Diego, California, granddaughter, Heather Schager and her husband, Rick of Sioux City, Iowa, and great grandchildren, Stephen and Rebecca Schager, grandson, Christopher Jansen of Sioux City, Iowa; daughter, Mary Lane and her husband, Terry of LeMars, Iowa and their family, grandson, Clifford McMurray and his wife, Jennifer of Kansas City, Missouri, and grandson, Patrick Lane of Iowa City, Iowa; daughter, Patricia Rippy and her husband, Matthew of Denver, Colorado, and their family, grandson, Jonathan Petersen of Ames, Iowa, granddaughter, Jenny Montange and her husband, Matthew of Des Moines, Iowa and great grandson, Mason Montange, granddaughter, Jillian Petersen from Anthon, Iowa; and one brother-in-law, Rollie Camp of Madison, Wisconsin.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Patricia Camp.
