Stanley M. Corbett, 94, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Private graveside services will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 7:30 to 10 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Corbett was born Sept. 1, 1909, in Sioux City, the son of Edward M. and Edith (VanSickle) Corbett. He attended Hunt Elementary School, North Junior High School and Central High School, graduating from Central in 1927. He attended the University of Chicago and graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1931. He graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1934.

He married Cecelia Frances Listing on Nov. 16, 1935, in Western Springs, Ill. The couple enjoyed traveling, having taken extensive trips to every continent.

He joined the law firm of Corbett and Corbett in 1934, practicing with his father and brothers, Carlton M. Corbett and Edward V. Corpett. The firm was established id 1896 by his father, who had been brought from the East Coast to this part of the country on an orphan train. His father had also graduated from the Iowa Law School, 38 years prior to him, and his son, Charles L. Corbett graduated from the Iowa Law School 38 years after him. He practiced law until 1998.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Judge Advocate General Office and with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was stationed in the Philippines.

He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. He was involved in numerous civic activities, including RiverCade, the American Red Cross, Siouxland Senior Center, The Methodist Hospital, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, United Way and Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple. He received the Sertoma Distinguished Service Award. He also was a member of the Son's of the American Revolution and served as admiral of River-Cade. He was president of the Woodbury County Bar Association and a longtime member of the Grievance Committee of the Iowa State Bar Association. He was a fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel.

He is survived by his wife, Cecelia of Sioux City; his son, Charles L. Corbett of Sioux City; his daughter and her husband, Patricia and Stephen Adams of Thornton, Colo.; 3 grandchildren, Shane Corbett of Grand Forks, N.D., Chad Corbett of Sioux City, and Charlotte Adams of Thornton, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers.

Memorials may be directed to the American Red Cross, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center or First United Methodist Church.
