SIOUX CITY -- Gerald Allen Galvin, 70, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. James de Anda of St. Michael Church officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City (NE) Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Gerald was born Sept. 9, 1941 in Sioux City, to Bernard G. and Joann (Phelps) Galvin. He graduated from Dakota City High School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959 until 1963.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Dakota City Alumni Association. Gerald enjoyed watching golf and football and visiting friends and family members.

Survivors include seven sisters, Roberta Galvin of Sioux City, Patricia Buckwalter of Hannibal, Mo., Kathy Galvin of Newcastle, Neb., Mary Galvin of Grass Valley, Calif., Susan Roper of Mapleton, Utah, Jane Van Winkle of Springfield, Mo., and Jody Galvin of Lake Forest, Calif.; four brothers, Tom Galvin of Omaha, Stephen Galvin of Fairbanks, Alaska, Robert Galvin of S. Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Michael Galvin of Sheridan, Ore.; eight nieces; 10 nephews; seven great-nieces; seven great-nephews; one great-great-niece and one great-great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Theresa Galvin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Dakota City Cemetery Association.
