Former resident of Smithland dies in Missouri

Robert "Bob" Stowe, age 42, of Kansas City, Missouri, died Sunday, January 2, 2000, in Kansas City.

Memorial service was held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2000, at the Smithland United Methodist Church in Smithland, with Pastor Karen Handke officiating. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton was in charge of the arrangements.

Rabert "Bob" Stowe was born April 14, 1957 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Ernstiene Stowe. At birth Robert was placed in a foster home and lived,, four years in the Des Moines, Iowa, area. At the age of four he came to Smithland, Iowa, to live with his foster parents, Ed and Ellen Kelly, where he lived until adulthood. He attended Westwood Community High School and graduated in 1976, After graduation worked at Compress Steel in Sioux City until 1984 when he moved to Kansas City and worked in the antique business.

He Was a Methodist and attended the Smithland United Methodist Church. Robert taught Sunday School for many years.

While growing up he enjoyed working on the farm and driving tractor with his parents. As an adult he loved to travel and dancing.

Those left to cherish Robert's memory include his mother, Ernstiene Stowe of Sioux City, Iowa, and numerous other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his foster parents, Ed and Ellen Kelly, maternal grandparents, Ernest and Viola Stowe; two aunts, Joyce Ducan and Doris Cappe and one uncle, Clarence Hanson.
