SIOUX CITY | Evelyn Golden, 93, of Sioux City, fell asleep in death Tuesday, Jan.29, 2013, at Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she was lovingly cared for during the past three years.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. today in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa, with Gary Nyreen of Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Born Goldie Evelyn on Dec. 7, 1919, in Ute, our loved one was always called by her middle name. She was the youngest of 13 children born to John and Jessie (Brown) Gries. Evelyn's mother died and she was raised for several years by her beloved aunt, Nellie, and uncle, Jim Barnhart. About the time she was 7 years old, her aunt got ill and Evelyn went to live back on the family farm, where it was a challenge to get used to 12 lively brothers and sisters.

The Gries farm was known for weekend barn dances. Evelyn loved to dance, and that is where she met Fay A. Golden, the man she later married. Four children were born to this union, Dorothy M. (Clayton), Norma Golden (Miller), Marilyn A. (Jim) Cummings, and Bob (Linda) Golden. The Goldens had 17 grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren. Evelyn was a homemaker, and Fay retired from the police force as a sergeant. He passed away in September 1989.

She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Clarence (Laura) Gries of Mapleton, Iowa.

Preceding her in death were her husband; 12 siblings, Charlie, Cecil, Melvin, Clarence, Harold, Frankie, Elmer, Florence, Blossom, Daisy, Ethel, and Violet; a granddaughter, D. Elizabeth Rasmussen; a grandson, Anthony A. Golden; a great-great-grandson, Kasen Scott Erlemeir; and two sons-in-law, Scott A. Miller and James Clayton.

Pallbearers will be Gary Golden, Dan Jarman, Dan Cummings, Dustin Kruse, Jeremy VanWyhe, Justin VanWyhe and Joel VanWyhe.

Memorials may be made to Westwood Nursing Home.
