Betty was born on April 17, 1930, in Sioux City, to Herbert and Faustina B. (Hall) Gibbs. She graduated from Paxico High School and attended Iowa State University Extension as a dietician. She worked for years as a dietitian for area nursing homes.

She was a member of Sioux City Gospel Hall. Betty enjoyed reading, spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, shopping, doing all types of puzzles and eating at finer restaurants. On Sept. 17, 1960, Betty was shown her need for salvation and accepted the Lord Christ as her savior, following in the will of the Lord. Betty and Sam opened their home to many fellow believers throughout the United States, Canada and other countries.
