SIOUX CITY | Lewis Franklin Jr., 63, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the V.A. Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be 11 A.M. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.

Lewis, the son of Lewis and Irene (Bowman) Franklin, was born on Dec. 12, 1949 in Sioux City. He received his education at McKinley, Woodrow Wilson and Job Corps, before serving in the U.S. Army. He was a private first class and served in Vietnam. Lewis worked for Smitty’s Muffler for more than 10 years and was also a construction contractor for many years.

He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to collect coins and brass and was a member of the Gonads. Lewis loved to work on cars and puzzles.

Lewis is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Kay (Deno) King of Kansas City, Mo., Adrienne Marie (Russell) Whitlock of Yankton, S.D., Brittney Nichole Franklin of Sioux City, and Clarice Conaway of Sioux City; one brother, Benjamin Franklin Sr. of Sioux City; three sisters, Rose Mary Wright of Dakota City, Mary Rose (Fayburn) Turner of Sioux City, and Sara Jean Fields of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren, Kaylene D. Campbell-Cole, Brooke R. Campbell-Cole, Samantha E. Franklin, Sara L. Franklin, Deondre P. Neri, and Jordan L. Neri; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
