BRONSON, Iowa | Robert D. Wingert, 78, of Bronson passed away Jan. 3, 2013, at Guthrie County Hospital.

Services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merril Muller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Robert was born on Sept. 9, 1934 in Bronson, Iowa, to Carl and Helen (Lander) Wingert. He had been a life-long resident of the Bronson area. He grew up, attended school and graduated from Bronson High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, and later the reserves.

He was united in marriage to Joyce A. Black on Dec. 28, 1956 in Sioux City. The couple just celebrated their 56th anniversary. Robert was employed with Sioux Tools in Sioux City from 1966 to 1997 as an assembly worker. He also farmed for a coupe of area farmers during this time as well as for the 10 years after his retirement from Sioux Tools.

Robert enjoyed working, fishing and tractor restoration, particularly Farmall, some traveling, gardening and tinkering around the house.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Bronson; children, Kevin and Lisa Wingert of Panora, Iowa, Steven Wingert and Mark Bridgeman of Mt. Pleasant, Wis., and Shelly and Randy Bitz of Nevada, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Chenin, Meghan, Brian, K.C., Shane, Marena, Zachary and Kate; a brother, Alan and Coleen Wingert of Moville, Iowa; two sisters, Elaine Calkins of Sergeant Bluff, and Arlene and David Krom of Sioux City; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roland Wingert.
