Bart graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in 1939. Bart attended two years of pre-law at Trinity College in Sioux City. During his school years Bart missed only one day of school back in first grade for sickness. Bart was a veteran and served in the US Army Air Corps, during World War II, from Oct. 29, 1942 to Feb. 25, 1946.

Bart was a huge sports fan and was grateful to see his Boston Red Sox and Green Bay Packers win national titles. Bart and Jo were charter members of Saint Lambert Catholic Church. They raised six children in a loving family home one block north of their church.

Bart was truly grateful for having shared his life with his wife of 58 years, Jo; his children, Jeannie (Charlie) Schneider, Daniel (Ann Roemen), Connie (Jim) Ross, Whitewood, Miles Kelly (Lisa), Susan (Thomas) Underberg, Stephen (Stacey); 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Beacom; and many loving nieces and nephews.
