SIOUX CITY -- LeRoy T. Schonrock, 52, of Sioux City died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at a local hospital.

Visitation with the family will be noon to 4 p.m. today at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Mr. Schonrock will be cremated following the visitation. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.

LeRoy was born Aug. 20, 1959, in Sioux City, the son of John and Delores (Rask) Schonrock. He attended Sioux City East High School. LeRoy served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps for six years following high school.

He was united in marriage with Kimberly Heck on June 11, 1984, at Latham Park in Sioux City. LeRoy worked as a mill operator at Purina Feeds for a few years and most recently had worked in maintenance at American Pop Corn Company. LeRoy had served families in the Siouxland area for many years as Santa Claus during the holiday season.

It was his wish to help others by being a registered tissue and organ donor upon his passing and gratefully this wish was accomplished.

LeRoy was a practical joker, who was a true people person. He would give anyone a helping hand, and loved his children.

He will be missed by his family which includes his wife, Kim of Sioux City; his three children, Levi Schonrock and his significant other, Maggie Backman of Sioux City, Manda Schonrock and her significant other, Blake Roberts of Sioux City and Genelle Schonrock and her significant other, Kyle Brever of Sioux City; two brothers, Art and his wife, Louise of Hornick, Iowa, and Oscar of Sioux City; a sister, Vivian Sherlock of South Sioux City; and his grandchildren, Marlee and Jude and another grandchild on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Jr.; and sister, Julie Clapper

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials in LeRoy's name be made to the American Heart Association.
