SIOUX CITY -- William R. "Bill" Jackson Jr., 79, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at Sunrise Retirement Community following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John Pehrson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Bill was born June 23, 1932, in Sioux City, the son of William R. and Mary (Antonovich) Jackson Sr. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1950. Bill served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.

On April 22, 1955, he married Margaret "Joan" Wyant in Sioux City. After the service, Bill returned to Sioux City and attended Morningside College and graduated with a degree in business. He worked for Kaplan Wholesale Grocery for 16 years until it closed. He then worked for Robert's Dairy. While at Kaplan's and Robert's Dairy, he was a member of the Teamsters Union. He worked for 14 years for the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a technician at Offutt Air Force Base.

He was on the board of directors for Jackson Pumping Service. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, Sergeant Bluff American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he volunteered for the Sioux City VA Clinic. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and deacon. He also coached the church basketball league and was a member of the Cutters Group.

Bill was active with the Sioux City Senior Little League baseball for 15 years and served as president for three years. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed the sport with his sons and their friends.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Joan" Jackson; five children, Julie Kinnaman, Jeff Jackson, Chris Young and her husband, Bob, Tim Jackson and Tony Jackson, all of Sioux City; a grandson, Evan Young; two brothers, Bob Jackson and Jim Jackson and his wife, Sabra, all of Sioux City; a sister, Jackie Jackson and her husband, Dave Higby of Oldsmar, Fla.; an aunt, Nina Baker of Sioux City; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jeannie Knutson.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Jackson, Tim Jackson, Tony Jackson, Jim Jackson, Mike Antonovich, and Bob Young.

Memorials may be made in his name to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Sunrise Retirement Community, or Hospice of Siouxland.
