SIOUX CITY -- Viola "Vi" Stieneke, 87, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kathy Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., an Eastern Star service at 8 p.m., followed by a prayer service, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Vi was born on July 2, 1924 to Willem and Lina (Krueger) Koning. She attended South Sioux City Community Schools, graduated in 1941 and later attended N.B.T. She had been a lifelong resident of the Siouxland area. Viola was employed as a bookkeeper with Central Finance and Siouxland Credit in Sioux City for 25 years.

She married Byrl J. Stieneke on May 5, 1951, in South Sioux City. He passed away on Sept. 30, 1990.

She was baptized at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City as a child. Vi was a current member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church (Mary's Circle, social ministry), a member of the Morningside Rose Croix Chapter of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Society - Crimson Glorys and volunteered at Mercy Medical Center for over 20 years. Vi also enjoyed her pet cats.

Survivors include her son, Kevin Stieneke of Marengo, Ill.; grandson, Jess Stieneke of Marengo; special friend, Kathy Anders of Sioux City; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
