24 January 2013SIOUX CITY | Ralph Carter, 89, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Ralph was born on Oct. 17, 1923, in Ponca, Neb., to Josephine and Earl Carter. He graduated from Waterbury (Neb.) High School and was the class valedictorian. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked at the U.S. Post Office until his retirement.
Ralph was an avid gardener and skilled woodworker. He could fix or grow almost anything and often helped others using his talents. Ralph also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and traveling with his family. Throughout his lifetime, he visited every state except Alaska.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen; daughter, Carmen; grandson, Eric; granddaughter-in-law, Samantha; and two sisters, Phyllis and Jane.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Dorothy and Alma Jean; and his brothers, Howard, Ross and Harold.
Ralph was loved and appreciated by his family and will be missed dearly.
