ANTHON, Iowa — Lawrence T. Buettner, 80, of Anthon died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon with the
Rev. Michael I Harman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites
conducted by American Legion McNiff Post 389 of Anthon. Visitation will he after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Armstrong. Funeral Home in Anthon.Mr. Buettner was born Aug. 6, 1919, near Ponca, Neb.. the son of John and Marie (Zastrow) Buettner. When his mother died, he was raised by his father and stepmother. Dora (Wendel) Buettner. He attended school in Ponca. He moved with his family to a farm near Anthon in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946.
He married Maizel H. Scheer on Dec. 2, 1945, in Climbing Hill, Iowa. He resided and farmed on the family farm until entering the nursing home in May 2000.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder, treasurer and captain of the dartball team. He was also a member of Aid Association for Lutherans. He
served as a 4-H Club leader for Anthon Advancer's and was a former board director with Woodbury County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed playing cards.Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Marvin and Vickie and Dale and Pam, all Of Anthon; seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Molly, Carrie, Adam, Christine and Johnathan Buettner and Jeff Roost; a brother and his wife, Harold and Lucille Buettner of Anthon; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Scheer of Correctionville, Iowa, and Helma and her husband, Don Krueger of Kingsley, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Alfred Scheer of Correctionville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter. Marilyn.
