SIOUX CITY -- Marvin D. Johnson, 81, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at a local hospital.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin 5 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Online condolences may be posted at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.

Marvin was born in Spencer, Neb., on Jan. 17, 1930, the son of Emerson and Amelia (Buettner) Johnson. He attended school in Lynch, Neb.

Marvin married Norma Jean Roth on Dec. 2, 1950 in Yankton, S.D. The couple was married for 61 years. Marvin worked mainly in the meat packing industry and then worked various jobs after retirement. The couple settled in South Sioux City in 1957, then moved to Sioux City in 2009.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, a volunteer firefighter on the South Sioux City Fire Department for over 32 years, and also assisted with Pete's Feeders for many years. He raced stock cars for 16 years, was a NASCAR fan, and also an avid Husker fan, hunter and fisherman. He loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; seven children, A. Marvene (Ed) Plueger, Dwayne (Nancy) Johnson, Arld (Nancy) Johnson, Byron (Missy) Johnson, Marvin Johnson, Darvin (Lori) Johnson, Troy (Sandra) Johnson; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Milton Johnson, Franklin (Marion) Johnson and LeRoy (Rose) Johnson; sisters, Darlene (Jim) Eaton, Joyce Crosley, Lucille (Chuck) Faughendar and Bev (Robert) Boes; and many nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Melvin Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Alyene (Ross) Crosley; and sister-in-law, Betty Johnson.
