Louis Pedro Calvillo Sr., 74, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at a Sioux City nursing and rehab center following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Holy Faith Cemetery in Lindy, Neb. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Calvillo was born Oct. 15, 1927, in Weimer, Minn., the son of Trinidad and Delores (Cortez) Calvillo. He married Geraldine Swain on Oct. 11, 1946. They later divorced. He married Belva Hoffman on Feb. 14, 1966. She died June 13, 1995, in Sioux City.

He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and then for the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years, retiring in 1980. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1946 to April 1947. He was a devoted father and son. He was blessed with 11 children.

Survivors include eight sons, Louis P. Calvillo Jr., of Sioux City, Mark Calvillo of Rock Valley, Iowa, Joseph and his wife, Evelyn Calvillo of Sioux City, Tony Calvillo of Mesa, Ariz., Tom and his wife, Terry Calvillo of Sioux City, Phillip and his wife, Mary Calvillo of Madison, Ohio, Tim Calvillo of Sioux City, and Todd and his wife, Linda Calvillo of Homer, Neb.; three daughters, Sandy and her husband, Ralph Verrone of Norfolk, Neb., Ruth and her husband, Pat Phipps of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Gloria Young and Larry Caskey of Sioux City; a brother, Trino Calvillo of Sioux City; two sisters, Delores Thompson of Vancouver, Wash., and Gloria Bacon of Toledo, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Angela Kruse and Mary Newcomb; a grandson, Craig Verrone; and a daughter-in-law, Jonne Calvillo.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Joseph, Tom, Phillip, Tony, Todd and Mark Calvillo. Honorary pallbearer will be Ralph Verrone.
