Paul W. Sorensen, 81, of Sioux City died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at the Sunrise Retirement Community.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev.
Richard Sitzman officiating. The body has been deeded to the Anatomy Department of the University of Iowa. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Mr. Sorensen was born March 17, 1917, in Sioux City, the son of Johannes "John" and Anna (Sorensen) Sorensen. He attended Bryant Elementary School, North Junior High School and graduated from Central High School in 1935.

He married Marie M. Daily on May 16, 1942, in Los Angeles. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was commissioned an officer. His awards and Decorations include the Bronze Star Medal.

He was employed as the carpet manager for Bekins Furniture Store for 30 years, retiring in 1982. She died in 1994.

He was an avid golfer, winning many tournaments including the City Golf Championship five times in three decades, 1950s, 1960s and the 1970s. He was a past member of the Sioux City Boat Club, the Green Valley Golf Association and the Siouxland Senior Center. He was of the Catholic faith and a former member of Nativity Parish.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Don and Cathie of Albuquerque, N.M. a daughter and her husband, Dodie and Ron McManamy of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; six grandchildren, Heather Graves, Mindi Choqueue, Mike and Kevin McManamy, Danielle Faubush and Taryn Plendl; three brothers, Leo and his wife, Edythe, of Dunnellon, Fla., Jack of Des Moines and Irving and his wife, Adele, of Sioux City; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
