CUSHING, Iowa — Linda Groepper, 85, of Cushing died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, with the Rev. Scott Meier officiating. Burial will be in Cushing City Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Marker Funeral Home in Holstein, Iowa.

Mrs. Groepper was born April 25, 1913 in Holstein, Iowa, the daughter of Ferdinand Carl and Betty Viola (Dittmer) Westphal. She moved with her family to a farm in Rock Township, Woodbury County, Iowa, as a child. She attended Cushing Consolidated School. She was employed in several homes in the area doing housekeeping and child care.

She married Arnold Groepper on Dec. 12, 1934, in Holstein. The couple lived on a farm west of Cushing for eight years, before moving to rural Cushing. In 1975, they moved into Cushing. She worked with the lunch staff at Cushing Consolidated Schools for several years. She also was the bookkeeper for the family business.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, A.L.C.W. and Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter and her husband, Elaine and Al Bartels of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Hilda Groepper of Correctionville, Iowa, and Freda and her husband, Tootie Brosamle of Cushing; three grandchildren, Scott Bartels, Michael Bullock and Brenda Pignataro; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Reed; a brothers, Henry Westphal; a sister, Ella Meins; three brothers-in-law, Elmer and Lester Groepper and Henry Meins; and two sisters-in-law, Marcella Westphal and Edna Dittmer.
