SIOUX CITY | Rosanne (Quist) Martinson, 91, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at her home following a brief illness.

A private, quiet family service in her daughter’s home will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

She was born Rosanne Quist to Gunnard and Anna Quist on July 3, 1921. She was the middle child of five children. Her parents farmed near Belvedere, Ill., for most of their lives. She grew up in and around Rockford, Ill.

She married Kenneth J. Martinson in Kahoka, Mo. They lived in the Rockford, Ill., area where they had two sons and worked until they moved to Denmark, Iowa, where their daughter was born. Her husband worked as a truck driver for Montgomery Ward. They lived in southeastern Iowa until her husband retired in 1975. After that they traveled the United Sates extensively in their camper enjoying life, eventually settling in Marshall, Texas. In 2004, they moved to Sioux City area to be near their children.

She was an avid reader and liked to bowl and crochet. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a very special person to many people and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sisters, Virginia Vowels of Irene, Ill., and Beverly (Clem) Hoof of Rockford, Ill.; sister-in-law, Ida Quist of Byron, Ill.; her three children and their spouses, Douglas and Mary Lou Martinson of Omaha, Kenneth and Debra Martinson of Franklin, Iowa, and her daughter, Deanna and Bob Newton; her grandchildren, Edward (Geneva) Martinson, Rebecca Martinson, Neil Rohmiller, Anna (Chad) Stinton, Cathy Brandt, Wesley Newton and Bob Newton Jr.; her great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her two "adopted daughters," Marci (Robert) Skinner and Sue (Bob) Robertson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ken; father and mother, Gunnard and Anna Quist; her father and mother-in-law, Ed and Amy Martinson; her sister and brother-in-law, June and Axel Carlsen; her brother-in-law, George Vowels; her brother, Roland Quist; her beloved grandson, Levi Martinson; her grandparents; and aunts and uncles.

In lieu of cards and condolences, the family asks that you donate to Hospice of Siouxland.
