3 January 2013SIOUX CITY | Laura Jean Peterson, 88, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at her residence.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com
Laura was born July 8, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of Nels Frederick and Nora Jeanette (Nelson) Thomsen. She was raised on the family farm near Castana, Iowa, and graduated from Castana High School in May of 1942. She attended N.B.T. in Sioux City from 1942 to 1943.
Laura married Russell G. Peterson May 18, 1946, in Sioux City. Russell died April 8, 2009, in Sioux City.
Laura was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Rachel Circle. She enjoyed doing Word Finds books, playing games with her friends at Northern Hills, but most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include five children, George Peterson and his wife Sally of Ashland, Ore., Norma May of Sioux City, Audrey Dack and her husband Jeff of Wailuku, Hawaii, Walt Peterson and his wife Anna of Sioux City, Marilyn Peterson and her husband Paul Cowan of Las Vegas, Nev.; her twin brother James Thomsen and his wife Bonita of Kansas City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell; son-in law, James May; and her brother, Norman Thomsen.
Pallbearers will be Kevin, Craig and Corey May, John Mayo, Joseph and David Peterson and Matt Sewalson
