SIOUX CITY | Fern Larsen, 94, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Sioux City passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at an Omaha, Neb., hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Community Center, Santee, Neb., with interment following in the Congregational Cemetery, Santee. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at St. Paul's Indian Mission, Sioux City where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. with Deacon Pat Roberts officiating. Sioux City arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service and Santee arrangements are under the direction of Santee Burial and Wake Association.

Fern was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Santee, the daughter of Edward and Sophie (Hopkins) Rouillard. She attended Santee schools. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Kansas where she received her degree.

She was united in marriage with Howard Larsen in 1966, and he preceded her in death in 1985.

Fern worked at the Zenith Corporation in Sioux City for 20 years. She then worked at Briar Cliff College as an administrative assistant before moving to Topeka where she worked for several years at Washburn University until her official retirement in 1985.

Fern liked to be in charge; she enjoyed spending time in her yard and garden and served the communities where she lived by volunteering in several different organizations. She and Howard enjoyed traveling, especially the trips to Europe.

She was a member of Potwin Presbyterian Church in Topeka and also a member of the Washburn Women Retirement Club,

Fern was a special mother, grandmother and the Greatest Grandmother of all to her five great-grandchildren.

She will be missed by her family which includes her daughter Jan Wallen of Phoenix, Ariz.; her three grandchildren and her five great-grandchildren, as well as a host of friends.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard, six sisters, one brother, and a son-in-law Gene Searcey.
