SIOUX CITY | Velva A. Nelson, 85, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at a local hospital.

Per her wishes, Velva was cremated and no services will be held at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson Berger Northside Chapel.

Velva was born to John and Thelma (Larsen) Hunter, Nov. 17, 1927, in Sioux City.

She married Elmer B. Nelson. He preceded her in death in 1982.

Velva owned and operated her own child care operation until retirement. When she moved to Pheasant Acres, she helped drive residents and was a wonderful caregiver.

Survivors include her son Gary and wife Roxy of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; a daughter Diane Nelson of Sioux City; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Velva’s name to Hospice of Siouxland.
