30 December 1982Mildred Leone Young was born in Mills County, Iowa on June 20, 1914 and passed from this life in the St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa on December 21, 1982. Death came following a long illness. She had reached the age of 68 years 6 months and 1 day.
Mildred was raised in and near Malvern, Iowa, the only child of Fred and Lottie Cozad. She accepted the Christ as her Savior and was baptized in the Baptist Church in Malvern, Iowa at the age of 11. At the age of 17 she was united in marriage with Lonnie Gail Vandershule and was widowed the same year, 1932. To this union was born one daughter, Gayle Freda.
On December 20, 1934 she was married to Wilbur Young and to this union were born five children; three sons, Matt Young of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Ray Young of Omaha, Nebraska and Joe Young of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and two daughters Rose Ella (Stillborn) and Patty Allen of Onawa. They lived in and near Mills County where Wilbur farmed to provide his wife and family a good home. In 1949 they moved to Homick, Iowa and remained there to this day.
Survivors include her husband, Wilbur; her three sons and two daughters; her step-daughter, Argalene Amiss of Hot Springs, South Dakota; 28 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. along with a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
Her parents, one infant daughter, Rose Ella, two grandsons and two infant great-granddaughters preceded her in death.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 23, 1982 at the Pearson Funeral Chapel at Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Mrs. Vince Phillips was the organist and she accompanied Jerry Quandt who sang "In The Garden" and "Where The Roses Never Fade".
Bearers were Matt Young, Ray Young, Joe Young, Lloyd Irvin, George Irvin and Jeff Irvin.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 23rd at the North Grove Cemetery at Hastings, Iowa, with Rev.Everett Epperson officiating. Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home at Onawa, Iowa.
