DANBURY,Iowa --
Frances Leavengood of Danbury died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Maple Heights. Care Center in Mapleton, Iowa, at the age of 88 years, 3 months and, 18 days.

Graveside services were held on Friday, July 7, 2000, at Liston Township Cemetery in Danbury, with the Rev. Glen Houts Jr. officiating.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at United Methodist Church in Danbury. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home.

Frances Lauren Leavengood, was born March 14, 1912, at Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Carl F. and Pearle (Frentress) Brown. She graduated with the Danbury High School class of 1930 and continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa where she graduated in 1934 with a degree in education. She was united in marriage to Mervyn B. Leavengood in 1946 in Worthington, Minnesota. They made their home in Battle Creek, Iowa, until his death in 1966.

Frances began teaching in Neola, Iowa. She also taught in Dallas, Iowa, and Battle Creek, Iowa, and was a member of the staff at the Ida Grove High School. At the time of her retirement, she lived at the Brown family home, caring for her mother until her death in 1981. She moved to Maple Heights Care Center in Mapleton, Iowa, 1987.

Antiquing and shopping for bargains were a special part of her life. She took pride in her friends, former students, and especially in her nieces and nephews and their families.

Her family includes a sister, Violet Anderson of Appleton, Minnesota, and Violet's children, Dick and his wive Harriett Anderson of Danbury, Iowa; Carla and her husband Jim Taurinskas of Mendota Heights, Minnesota, and Leora Anderson and her husband Butch Moening of Cottage Grove, Minnesota. Great nieces and nephews include Patrick, Shannon and Jason Anderson all of Danbury, and Peter and Brian Taurinskas of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Along with her husband, Frances was preceded in death by her parents.
