Kathlyn V. "Kay" Chelstad, 95 ½, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at a Sioux City Hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gregory Hanneman officiating. Burial of her cremains will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Kay was born on June 1, 1917, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Vernon and Jennie (Anderson) Hulin. She graduated from Walnut High School where she grew up as a youth.

She was married to Norman J. Chelstad on Sept. 21 1942, in Omaha. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1994, in Sioux City. She was a homemaker.

Kay enjoyed bowling in her younger days and was a basketball player in high school. She loved doing crossword puzzles and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes on T.V. She also enjoyed bird watching, and watching the Wheel of Fortune. She was a Lawrence Welk fan and a well known chocoholic.

Kay is survived by her daughter, Janice (Fred) Yates of Sioux City; son, Paul Chelstad of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Amy (Trent) Gerritson, Doug (Melissa) Yates and Nick Yates; three great-grandchildren, Skyler and Carter Gerritson and Parker Yates.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Earl and Ralph Hulin; and a sister, Alice Peterson.
