6 DecemberHoward E. Karras, 84, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at a local hospital.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Trimble United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.
Howard was born on June 19, 1928, in Sioux City, the son of Chris and Edna Mae (White) Karras. Howard attended Sioux City Schools.
He married Clara Merchant on Sept. 22, 1947, in Sioux City. Howard worked for his father at the Eat Shop on Fourth and Court. He later worked at the Container Corporation until 1975, when the family moved to North Long Beach, Calif. In California, he worked at Mercury Die Corporation until retiring in 1984 and moved back to Sioux City. After retirement, he worked part-time as a guard at the Skyways.
Howard was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Christine Yarte and Pat (Tim) Hodgins, all of Sioux City; sister, Annabelle Wright of Sioux City; grandchildren, Lisa, Ryan, Kris, and David Yarte, Brittany (Brad) Stearns, and Silas Hodgins; and a great-grandchild, Brea Cox.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara; son, Howard Karras Jr.; daughter, Anna Karras; and a brother, Harold Karras.
