Orria E. Sparks

Orria E. Sparks, 85, of Akron, died Thursday (Nov. 13, 1986) at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center.

Services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron. The Rev. Benard Nelson officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under the direction of the Schroeder funeral home of Akron. Visitation was held Sunday at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Ray Jespersen, Allen Vander Helm, Harold Dowling, Larry Lorensen, Jeff Lorensen and Gary Lorensen. Gary Tucker, vocalist, sang "Going Home" and "What A Friend". Carol Harris was organist. "How Great Thou Art" was sung by the congregation.

Mr. Sparks was born April 13, 1901, in Sioux City. He served with the U.S. army during World War II. He married Henrietta Lorensen June 21, 1946, in Akron where the couple made their home. For many years he worked in the harvest fields going from Kansas to the Canadian border every year. He was also a carpenter in the Akron area for many years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church and Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Liola Powers of Salinas, Calif.;. one stepdaughter, Lucille Young of Washington, Ill.; two stepsons, Orville and Les Lorensen, both of Akron; one sister, Leila Lange of Edinburgh, Texas; six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 14-great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepfather, one daughter, three brothers, and one sister.
