Marion D. Rubida, 80, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at a local care facility.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Church of Christ, with Matthew Wentz officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Marion was born March 16, 1932, in Marion, S.D. She was the daughter of Arnold and Clara “Ferne” (Williams) Trowbridge. She grew up in the Sioux City area, attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School in 1950. Marion married LeRoy L. Rubida on July 21, 1951, in Sioux City. She operated a day care center out of her home for many years.

Marion was a member of Morningside Church of Christ and taught Sunday school at the church. Her life centered on her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the children she cared for at the day care center.

Survivors include her children, Larry Rubida and his wife Sue of Sioux City, Gary Rubida and his wife Debbie of Centennial, Colo., E.J. LaVelle and his wife Peggy of Joplin, Mo., Laurie Pitts and her husband Jack of Sioux City; her sister, Sheila Petersen of Battle Creek, Iowa; her brother, Dennis Lilly of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister-in-law, Marsha Trowbridge of Bellevue, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Josh Rubida, Travis Rubida, Wendy Behr, Rana Rubida, Ashley McKibbin, Renee Rubida, Carrie Rubida, Erika Garner and Robin Streeter; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy; her brother, Roger Trowbridge; grandsons, Quintin Streeter and Landon Garner; and brother-in-law, Jim Petersen.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

In remembrance of Marion, the family asks those attending the funeral to wear lavender, which was her favorite color.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Morningside Church of Christ Youth Group.

The family would like to thank Touchstone Living Center and Care Initiatives Hospice for the wonderful care given to Marion.
