Lowell P. Miles, 86, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trimble United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:15 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Lowell P. Miles Jr. was born April 18, 1926, in Crofton, Neb., the son of Lowell P. and Mabel (Sawyer) Miles Sr.

He married Janice E. Stephenson on Aug. 30, 1947, in Sioux City. They had five children.

Lowell was employed as a sheet metal worker with Sheet Metal Union 37, where he was a member. He retired with Local Union 3.

He was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church and Triangle Lodge 643.

In his free time Lowell enjoyed HO Model Trains, worked on counted cross stitch projects, and did embroidery work with which he covered all the dining room chairs. He lovingly tended his flower garden, where he grew irises, roses and gladiolus. Lowell enjoyed baking, cooking and reading. His greatest love was being grandpa and great-grandpa.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Miles of Sioux City; four children, Linda (Mike) Hanson of Rosemont, Minn., Judy Miles (Kevin) Rolfes of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Lowell "Pat" Miles of Sioux City and Matt (Lynn) Miles of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Gearold Miles of Elgin, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eileen Stephenson; and a son, Jeffrey John Miles.
