Charles R. "Dick" Hansen, 79, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness with cancer.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev David A. Hemann officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Dick was born June 21, 1933, in Homer, Neb., the son of Harry and Melissa (Betz) Hansen. Dick grew up in Sergeant Bluff and then his family moved to the Leeds area of Sioux City. Dick attended Leeds High School.

He married Janet L. Hesslingh on June 29, 1957, in Sioux City.

Dick began working for Sioux Tools at age 17 and worked there for almost 46 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Dick played softball for Taylor's Tap when he was younger. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, bowling, fishing and watching his grandson bowl 300 games.

Survivors included his wife, Janet of Sioux City; three children, Christine (Steve) Hawkinson of Sioux City, William Lee (Julie) Hansen of Sioux City and Andrea (Chris) Jacobsen of Papillion, Neb.; a sister, Virginia Hurni of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Amanda (Nick) Collins, Jason Hawkinson and Tyler Hansen (fiancée Jessica); and two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Arabella Collins.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Bob, Jerry, Donald and William Hansen; and a brother in law, Harold Hurni.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Hansen, Nick Collins, Kevin Prue, Joe Prue, Curtis Gaskell and Joe Morley.
