Mildred "Millie" Jean Carr, 85, of Hornick, Iowa, currently of Whiting, Iowa, passed away December 11, 2012 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Holly Springs Bible Fellowship in Holly Springs, Iowa with Pastor Jim Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 14, 2012 at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Millie was born December 16, 1926 in Sloan, Iowa, the daughter of Fred F. and Erma (Bowen) Gallagher. She grew up in the Hornick area and graduated from Hornick High School in 1944. She attended the National Business Training School in Sioux City for one year before moving to Omaha, Nebraska, where she worked for the Mutual of Omaha and the Union Pacific Railroad.

Millie and Raymond "Mike" Carr were united in marriage on February 10, 1946 in Omaha. To this union, two children were born. Millie worked as a homemaker and in the janitorial department for the Westwood Community Schools in Sloan. After Mike's death on March 29, 1991, she continued to live on the family farm before moving into CharMac Assisted Living in Lawton, Iowa and then Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

She belonged to the Hornick American Legion Auxiliary Hindman-Steele Post #492 and the Ladies Aid at the Holly Springs Church of Christ, where she also taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years.

Millie is survived by two sons and their wives, Fred and Karen Carr of Hornick, IA and Daryl and Barbara Carr of Moville, IA; two grandchildren and their husbands, Kelly and Duane Cook of Omaha, NE and Kari and Dan Nelson of Sioux City, IA; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Cook, Charlie Cook, Gracie Nelson, and Addie Nelson; and a sister, Geraldine "Geri" (Gallagher) Lynn of Hornick, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mike Carr, a sister, Madge O. Solorio, and a brother, Frank Gallagher.
